Space Phallus is a fun shoot-em-up with a retro 8 bit theme. You control the disembodied head of a dog, and fight against hordes of evil space penises. There is an online scoreboard in the game, so everyone can compete to try and become the Worlds Biggest Phallus!

Trivia

• This game came about from a discussion i had with a friend regarding how phallic the ship and boss designs in old shoot’em’ups couold be. The C64 style visuals were chosen in homage to that platforms’ notirous Stroker, which you can experience for your self via the link.

• The game was most popular in French speaking countries, according to the stats. Possibly because of this shouty Youtube man??

• Terry liked the lead track, Retro Tune by Magnus Pålsson enough that he commisioned Magnus to compose the soundtrack for the excellent VVVVVV

• Space Phallus was featured in the book “250 Indie Games You Must Play”, by Mike Rose of nomorerobots fame.

• Space Phallus was never finished. There are two further levels partly made, one similar to the level in R-Type where you fly around the huge ship and another that see’s the player flying into the Space Phallus to destroy it from within. My memory of why these didn’t get finished and released is that I really wanted the game to be playable in browsers, but my experiments with flash at the time didn’t work out in the game running very well. Now with wasm and webgpu i expect thiscould be accomplished more easily, so maybe i’ll get around ot tidying this one up in the future.
